Getting Ready for The Slopes

Here is MyLocalExchange's top tips to being piste ready...

Heading off to the slopes ? Our top tips:

1 Ski Gear - get selling or grab a bargain

It's soooo easy. Sort out your & your kids' ski stuff now and sell it on MyLocalExchange. Just contact us if you need a helping hand! See what's selling and save some money. Plus we have some great local shops providing equipment, clothing and specialist services for skiers - just check them out here.

2 Practise makes Perfect

We are incredibly lucky to have the SnoZone at the Xscape, Milton Keynes on our doorstep. Totally recommend getting your little darlings competent on skis before hitting the slopes for your first family trip. This way you won't have to spend YOUR time hanging out on the nursery slopes. As long as you get them to the level of taking a button lift before you go, then there will be no stopping them. SnoZone runs SnoAcademy for group lessons or go for a one on one. They won't let them loose on the main slope with you until they have mastered the button - so book lessons early to avoid disappointment. PS if you are feeling rather peckish after all that snow, check out Five Guys - a great burger joint at the Xscape.

3 Where to go skiing?

Check out the chalets on MyLocalExchange - always good for mates rates! And, if you like leaving it until the last minute to see how the snow conditions are shaping up - then why not try Ski Solutions or Alpine Answers. They have access to all the holidays still available and are pretty knowledgeable on their chosen region.

4 Ski Hire - Save up to 60% by booking in advance

Save time and money with by prebooking your ski hire. You can try the following discount codes: 'ALPISKI' for France or 'news101' for Austria, Switzerland, Italy etc or just google for alternatives.

5 Getting there

  • BY ROAD: Want to make your life easier? Apply for an Emovis toll payment system. No more queuing at tolls on the autoroute - just smugly pass through the barrier with a beep and you can continue on your way. This is extra brilliant if you are travelling alone and struggle to reach across at every toll. Definitely my best 'gift' to my hubby! Plus don't forget your SNOW CHAINS. Even when there's just a sprinking of snow on the roads, it is compulsory to have the following in your boot when you are driving through France. Don't get caught out - getting stuck half way up the mountain after a 9 hour drive thanks to an unexpected dump of snow is no fun at all!
  • BY PLANE: Check out Swiss - they are one of the only operators who don't charge extra for taking your ski equipment.
  • BY TUNNEL: A great deal - £10 of Tesco Vouchers buys you £30 of Euro Tunnel Tokens. Find out more here..

 Bon Ski!
